Making DAILY Decisions as a Purposeful Entrepreneur

Do you ever feel like you have an inner workaholic that just does NOT want to rest?  Or an inner boss that likes to make sure you cram every bit of your “to-do” list into every day, increasing your productivity and efficiency and competency or else… or else… or else this boss might just… give you a demotion!?

What really defines productive anyway?  Sometimes the absolute best thing I could do for MY business is to get an extra hour of sleep on a stormy morning, or spend the afternoon with a friend scouring for sea glass in the surf.

None of these things earn me extra dollars per say – but they provide a currency for my soul.  And as an entrepreneur especially, to deprive myself of endless days of wandering every once in awhile is a serious threat to the longevity of my business.

My teacher used to say “Suffering is resisting what IS”.  And, sometimes my inner-workaholic needs a rest, I lose appreciation for this incredible thing called my laptop…and my heart is longing for friends in 3-D rather than a facebook post.  It is during these times that I’ve decided the most Purposeful thing for me to do- is to cut myself loose from some preconceived 28,000 foot tall expectations, seize the day and self-nurture, taking a true break, spontaneously or pulling out an art mosaic project I set aside months ago.

I then pretend there’s nothing else to do in my life but cut up little pieces of colored glass, eat chocolate and listen to Michael Franti sing about world peace and the freaky people of this world.

Interestingly enough, after a day or two like this, I’m ready to be back at work, booking the next speaking engagement or posting the next blog post or sending out the next Life Purpose Ezine, in fact… maybe I’ll write about the last couple days I spent doing crafts…

Thanks for the great post Laura! I love gentle reminders to be nicer to myself and not work so HARD! And that sometimes a break is exactly what you need to get back in touch with why you do your business in the first place! Thanks again! Love, Jennifer

It all sounds great and it’s a friendly reminder that we all have to remember to live in the moment. I seem to have to remind myself daily. thank you

I’ve been embracing this more and more, the idea that there isn’t necessarily this HUGE over-arching life purpose but many smaller moment to moment purposes for me and they shift and evolve and I can flow and ride with that. Thanks for affirming that flow!
